Following the course of the Arno river, you reach the Natural Park of Casentino Forests. Coming up from the Tuscan side, in the valley, there are villages rich in history and art, charming hamlets, which accompany the discovery of one of the oldest forests in Europe. Vast forests and woodlands cover almost the entire territory of the park. Ancient forests to be explored, that allow their visitors to experience strong and deep feelings; deeply fascinating in their alternation of colors. In fact, in the park there is an incredible flora and fauna, among which the most important wolf's population in the northern Apennines and five species of ungulates: wild boar, roe deer, fallow deer, red deer and mouflon. The protected area can be visited by hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and winter even with touring skis in its many miles of trail network. Inside the park there are two places of tremendous spiritual importance: the Sanctuary of La Verna and Camaldoli Hermitage.
